How the calculation works

CBM measures shipment volume

CBM stands for cubic metre. When dimensions are entered in centimetres, multiply length, width, height, and quantity, then divide by 1,000,000.

CBM = L × W × H × quantity ÷ 1,000,000Use centimetres for length, width, and height.

Example: two cartons

40 × 30 × 50 × 2 ÷ 1,000,000

A carton measuring 40 × 30 × 50 cm has a volume of 0.06 CBM. Two identical cartons total 0.12 CBM.

Volume and billing

CBM is not the final chargeable weight

Carriers usually compare actual weight with dimensional weight. The higher value may become the chargeable weight, subject to the carrier's contract, rounding, and service rules.

Frequently asked questions

Can I calculate several carton sizes together?

Yes. Add one row for each carton size and enter its quantity. CartonCheck sums all rows into one total CBM.

Should I include the outer packaging?

Yes. Use the final packed dimensions, including the outer carton and protective materials.

Does CBM determine the shipping charge?

Not by itself. The carrier may use actual weight, dimensional weight, minimum charges, and other contract conditions.
